Apple’s WWDC to Spotlight AI Integration and Software Overhaul
iOS 18 and AI Integration Take Center Stage
iOS 18 is anticipated to be the main highlight of this year’s WWDC. Apple is set to showcase its strides in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its devices and software, including a noteworthy partnership with OpenAI.
As the event draws closer, rumors about iOS 18 and its AI-powered apps and features are heating up.
Apple’s AI Prowess on Display
Rumors suggest that Apple harnesses its Ajax LLM to power some of its new AI features, including suggested email replies.
Further, the famous electronics company reportedly plans to process AI data in a way that remains inaccessible even to its employees, reinforcing its commitment to user data privacy.
Additionally, Siri is expected to undergo an AI makeover, leveraging Apple’s extensive language models to control individual features inside applications.
This means users can ask the assistant to perform tasks like deleting an email or editing a photo without requiring any setup from developers or users.
However, advanced capabilities like handling multi-step tasks may not be ready until next year.
Apple Photos Gets a Facelift
Apple is also planning a revamp of its Photos app. The new interface will feature AI-assisted photo retouching, setting the stage for a potential showdown with Google Photos.
A ‘Clean Up’ feature will also allow users to remove objects from photos using generative AI technology, similar to Google’s Magic Eraser.
Besides Apple Photos facelift, Safari will benefit from AI with its new Intelligent Search feature that recaps web pages and news articles.
Notes, too, will be AI-enhanced, offering recaps, audio transcriptions, and assistance in creating graphs and solving equations.
Voice Memos and iMessages Get AI Makeover.
The conference is also likely to announce real-time transcription for voice memos.
iMessage is expected to support generative AI emojis, AI recaps of missed texts, and suggested replies. It will also offer RCS support, enhancing interaction with Android users.
The Calendar app will also be AI-compatible, checking for events when composing responses. Similarly, the Mail app will offer AI-generated suggested email replies and a superior search function.
Fresh Look for Settings and Control Center
The Settings interface is due for a revamp to improve organization and search. The Control Center will feature a new Music widget and improvements to HomeKit for smarter home integrations.
With iOS 18, users will enjoy greater flexibility in arranging app icons and changing their colors.
Other features include custom route creation in Apple Maps and potentially AI-driven auto-generated playlists in Apple Music. Freeform, Xcode, Keynote, and Pages are also due for updates.
